I've always hated portrait photography. I hate that you have to get dressed up in an outfit you never wear in real life, you can't get wrinkled or dirty or messy while in said outfit, you have to pose, smile and look like the perfect family. Inevitably, someone's hair is out of place, people are screaming, someone is crying, and everyone looks horribly uncomfortable when the photographer yells, "say cheese!"
That is not NOT what I'm about. I'm about real life. I'm about truth. I want to capture who your family is right now, in this moment, just as they are. Your family is perfect in their imperfections and I want that to be conveyed on film. If your kid won't wear anything but his ratty old tennis shoes, let him. If your baby is constantly drooling, drool on. If your husband hates to get his picture taken, let him stand there and frown. Or wait, is that just MY husband?!? I just want you as you are.
Because I don't like stiff portraits, I refuse to take them. So if that is what you are looking for, keep looking. I want to meet you at a park, or in the city, or somewhere that is special to you. I use natural lighting, so indoors is not recommended, except for newborns. Newborn photo shoots will most likely ALWAYS be indoors only b/c a new baby is so little, exposing them to the elements isn't always a good idea.
When we work together, please don't dress up! Wear what you're comfortable in, wear what you love, wear something that makes you feel beautiful. Don't worry about your family matching. Your kids don't have to match either! When you are comfortable and real, it will come through in your photos.
