I got to revisit finn and jack today to try to get a few more POSED shots. Yes yes yes. I know. Although my passion is to just CAPTURE LIFE I also really love to get those shots. You know the ones. The ones that make your heart skip a beat and your uterus flip flop. The ones that cause you to forget the sleepless nights and only remember the way they slept so peacefully in your arms.
Shots like this:
I actually went there to get just ONE shot I really want for my portfolio but it just didn't work out. Which is fine. Because the ones we did get are perfect.
And they surprised me by giving me a shot I have been waiting to get for at least a year!
It involves a prop that is HARD to find, as I have searched St. Louis antique stores endlessly. A prop that a friend found in Georgia of all places but since she lives in Kentucky I don't have it yet. A prop that when I saw it sitting on Maureen's coffee table I almost wet my pants I was so excited! A prop that Maureen's mom happened to bring down from Chicago when her sister suggested she bring it.
Basically, this prop is HARD to find and RANDOMLY showed up at finn+jack's house JUST FOR ME! HA!
Seriously, I had a photographic orgasm I was so excited! TMI? TOO BAD!
ARE YOU DYING?
Or is it just me that thinks a baby scale makes the sweetest photo?
Do you want to see it again?
OK!
MAN OH MAN I just love this! And could those boys be any cuter?
A few others that stole my heart...
That SMILE!
OMGosh. It happened just as I was getting ready to start shooting and luckily I had my settings right b/c I would have been so mad if I'd have missed this!
Tell me that your uterus is not doing flip-turns!
Anyway.
Don't these photos look peaceful?
And simple?
Like swaddle each baby, lay them next to each other and SNAP. A photo!
Right.
Shooting babies is HARD work. So hard in fact that Maureen (mom) noticed I wore a tank top b/c the last time I was sweating! HA!
I always have clients turn the heat WAY up so the babies are cozy being naked... if we're sweating they are comfortable!
Anyway, the shots I wanted to try I knew I would need help with so my friend (and client) Amy Beachy came with me. THANK YOU AMY! And she can attest to how stinking HARD it is to get a good newborn photo!
You have to go really slow, make sure they are truly asleep, watch for sudden movements (especially when they are precariously perched), have spotters, create a studio-like backdrop at someone's house (I don't use papers or anything so I have to get creative, which usually means someone holding some kind of blanket), ignore the pee+poop that is inevitable, etc. I was there for almost three hours today and I came away with less than 10 photos. Now, I had already given them their photos that they paid me for, this was just for me to get some portfolio shots (which means I was being incredibly picky), but still, to get those posed shots it really does take patience and an army of helpers sometimes!
Case in point...
Cute shot.
The reality behind the shot?
This:
HA!
Mom and Grandma were on either side ready to catch a falling baby, Amy and Dad were holding the blanket and I was shooting!
SO funny!
And now you know the truth!
THANK YOU Maureen and Andy for letting me come BACK over today! I am just in LOVE with your boys! I am already dreaming of our session in October!!!
And an even BIGGER thank you to GRANDMA today for bringing that scale! LOVE IT!

Tomorrow I am blogging about a BIG idea I have. About reconnecting with your family and living to blog about it. And in preparation for the big idea I have some kid crafts I've been waiting to show you, art projects, etc. This is going to be so GOOD. And as far as I know Stacey Julian is on board too! And so is Tami! And Lindsay! More tomorrow!
